ABOUT THE ARTIST:Soynika Edwards-Bush, an artist from Prichard Alabama, has sought to bring art to her community and to show representation of the black family and life. A wife and mother of four, Soynika has dedicated her time and passion to the arts. The year 2020 was a year of blessings. Soynika created some of her most political and thought provoking pieces while witnessing the tension in the country. Most of her pieces are “faceless” but not soul-less. The artist is often asked why she chooses to leave the blank faces and she responds by telling the viewer to just simply imagine. She has stayed true to herself and her calling when painting the images from her heart. The civil rights era and its leaders have a special place in her work, as she vows to keep “them” relevant and continuing to acknowledge their bravery and strife. She now holds a residency with the Alabama Contemporary Art Center, and continues to promote the arts of ALL children.
